Awesome! Love your blog, just stumbled upon it while doing some research on Brewster, MA. I am a dyed in the wool New Englander myself and a geneology and history buff but the first member of my family to arrive in MA wasn't until 1892!!
ReplyDeleteJust thought to update you on one of your (our) ancestors. John Dunham (aka Deacon John Dunham) was born 1589 in Hertfordshire county. Bedfordshire county is where he first married and had at least his first child (son). [All documented by church records.]
ReplyDeleteThe surname of Abigail, his second wife, is Balliou (various spellings seen.) Bangs and others say Barlow came from earlier researchers trying to translate the surname to English which apparently did not need it.
I descend from John and Abigail's son Jonathan (born in Leiden) who married Mary Cobb daughter of Henry Cobb and Patience Hurst.
Thank you for the corrections. I haven't seen his baptism record. Do you know if it has been published and any journals or online? Thank you, Chris
DeleteSo many of the same families in my tree, Waterman, Sturtevant, Snow, etc. I also have a Hopkins connection that can't be proven: Constance Snow, d. of Nicholas and Constance (Hopkins) Snow, m. Daniel Doane. Maybe! Constance would be one of the unnamed children of Constance (Hopkins) Snow.
ReplyDeleteDH
It's so frustrating when you can't prove parentage. I've been there! Chris
