Rose Emma / Emma Kelley 1858-1937 married William Chase, Dennis, Mass.

My goodness, what a storm we had in Massachusetts last weekend. Our town postponed trick-or-treating and school was canceled for four days. Our yard looks like a disaster area! Sorry for the delay in posting. We were without power for a few days and it's been a crazy week at home and work.

Rose Emma was the youngest child of Valentine and Rosanna (Eldredge) Kelley. She seems to have gone by her middle name, Emma. She was born 13 January 1858 in Dennis Port, MA (according to Dennis Vital Records and RLDS Register). Her father’s Bible has her birth as 12 June 1857.
I believe this is either Rose Emma or her sister Ella

Emma and William Chase’s marriage intentions were published in Dennis, 28 July 1876. The RLDS Church Register has that date as their marriage. William was a mariner at the time of their marriage, the son of Joseph and Eliza Chase.

They had eight children: William, Lizzie (died as a toddler), Mertie (she died as a baby), Frederic, Joseph, Eliza, Rose, and Agnes. My great-grandmother Ethel (Kelley) Booth was close with some of Emma’s children, her first cousins, and she kept letters from Rose and Agnes.

Rose Emma was a member of the Church of the Reorganized Latter Day Saints (RLDS).

She is mentioned in the settlement of her grandfather Oliver Kelley's estate in 1884, Emma Kelley, husband unknown, of Brockton. Daughter of Oliver's deceased son Valentine.

She died 23 February 1937 in Dennis.

Rose Emma is buried Swan Lake Cemetery, Dennis Port, with husband and three children. Rose F. (should be E.) 1858-1937, daughter Lizzie M. 1881-1883, daughter Mertie 1884-1884, son Frederic B. 1886-1945.

  1. My grandmother was Rose and my Aunt was Agnes! All members of the same Church and buried Swan Lake Cemetery.

    1. It's great to hear from you, Sue! Fortunately my great-grandmother and grandmother kept old letters and photos, which helped me piece together the Kelley/Chase family. They kept in touch, which was nice to see. Please let me know if anything I've shared is inaccurate. Thanks! Chris

I'm now moderating comments on this blog. My apologies for any ensuing delays, but the large number of "spam" comments have made this necessary. ~Chris
