Have you seen the 2012 monograph, “The Berry Family of Cape Cod” by Sterling & Sterling? They researched RB’s origins in England and turned up some very instructive material. Cutting to the chase: he may have been a political refugee from the “11-Year Tyrrany,” and his “thievish” conduct may have stemmed from a profound non-conformist character. Anyway, his first son John fought in the King Philip’s War in 1675 and served the Town of Yarmouth on grand juries and other committees. John’s son Ebenezer fought in the King George’s War (the fourth of the French and Indian Wars); and Ebenezer’s son Isaac and grandsons James and Isaac fought in the American Revolution. The Sons of the American Revolution will be marking Isaac Berry’s grave on July 7th, 2018 to honor the 240th anniversary of his service. Am hoping to have as many of Isaac’s issue there as possible. The father was born in 1820, lived in Harwich. His son was born 1840, married Maria Nickerson. In 1873 while fishing in George's Bank the ship went down, everyone died. I have tried to connect them with Richard Berry's ancestors & can not. Any ideas? Berry usually is an English or Irish name, maybe John Sr. father worked on a ship that brought him to Faial. John's wife was Louisa Fialho born in Faial, died 1880 in Harwich. I’m a Berry and Richard is my 8th ggf. I’ve been working on ancestry.com since last May and it’s been interesting. I attended grammar and high school in Bourne, MA and little did I realize that a lot of my classmates were kin. Eldridge, Chase.Twining, Crowell and Teague Jones are all in my line, and have now uncovered at leaf three Wampanoag ggm’s. One of the ancestry trees does show a Jane as the first wife of Richard.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07614401313894882060noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3037326832482088445.post-75957773443739487302013-06-18T12:00:06.459-04:002013-06-18T12:00:06.459-04:00Good question, I honestly don't know.
